ACTIVITIES
The research methodology within the KulturFER project implies an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis of the economic activity of iron production in Antiquity and during the Early Middle Ages. It is designed to approach a topic that connects landscape, technology and socio-economic prerequisites - the production and distribution of iron. The proposed methodology consists of several levels of data collection, processing and analysis and includes: 1) geoarchaeological field surveys, 2) macroscopic analysis of archaeological material and analysis of archaeological field record, 3) experimental testing, 4) laboratory analysis, 5) spatial analysis – individual archaeological context (workshops) and a wider spatial context of landscape characteristics and archaeological data on sites with metallurgical features.
